We’ve now completed the draft Theme Accessibility Audit Criteria and have settled on a proposed new theme tag: accessibility-ready. We’re now discussing how the new AccessibilityAccessibility Accessibility (commonly shortened to a11y) refers to the design of products, devices, services, or environments for people with disabilities. The concept of accessible design ensures both “direct access” (i.e. unassisted) and “indirect access” meaning compatibility with a person’s assistive technology (for example, computer screen readers). (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accessibility) Audit can be added to the workflow of the Theme Review Team. As this is going to involve some programmatic changes to the current theme submission system, this might take some time to iron out but I’ll try to keep everyone updated with the progress.

Been v busy on client work recently, but could we start to flag up the upcoming accessibilityAccessibility Accessibility (commonly shortened to a11y) refers to the design of products, devices, services, or environments for people with disabilities. The concept of accessible design ensures both “direct access” (i.e. unassisted) and “indirect access” meaning compatibility with a person’s assistive technology (for example, computer screen readers). (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accessibility) improvements in the admin screens in 3.5. I know there are still some changes being made but progress has been good.     The TOCs for the PluginPlugin A plugin is a piece of software containing a group of functions that can be added to a WordPress website. They can extend functionality or add new features to your WordPress websites. WordPress plugins are written in the PHP programming language and integrate seamlessly with WordPress. These can be free in the WordPress.org Plugin Directory https://wordpress.org/plugins/ or can be cost-based plugin from a third-party and Theme Developer Handbooks are now being worked on. AccessibilityAccessibility Accessibility (commonly shortened to a11y) refers to the design of products, devices, services, or environments for people with disabilities. The concept of accessible design ensures both “direct access” (i.e. unassisted) and “indirect access” meaning compatibility with a person’s assistive technology (for example, computer screen readers). (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accessibility) does feature in both which is good, but we should keep an eye on those to make sure it’s not an afterthought.

The concept of accessible design ensures both “direct access” (i.e. unassisted) and “indirect access” meaning compatibility with a person’s assistive technology (for example, computer screen readers). (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accessibility) sections of each of the Handbooks. As soon as each of the handbooks reach a point where we can contribute, I’ll post here so that we can hammer out some drafts. I also think we need to look over the handbooks themselves at some point and check that they, too, are as accessible as possible.
