Hello, accessibility experts. We were recently contacted by Jeanne Spellman, one of the editors of the w3c ATAG guidelines. The Authoring Tool Accessibility Guidelines (ATAG) 2.0 Working Draft was published on April 26. The update is almost finished and they will be taking comments until May 24, 2011.

They also have a companion document, Implementing ATAG 2.0 to define how authoring tools can help developers produce accessible web content that conforms to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0. It also defines how to make authoring tools accessible so that people with disabilities can use them.

It would be great if we could try to meet the new guidelines with 3.2 as much as we can.

If anyone would like to take a stroll through 3.2 or the new default theme, Twenty Eleven, and identify any accessibility issues, now would be the time if we want to patch them before release. You can access 3.2 trunk by using the beta testers plugin: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-beta-tester/

Any accessibility professionals interested in being part of the new accessibility working group, please leave your info in a comment on this post and I’ll get you added to the blog so you can introduce yourself.
