Support Team Update for October 24th, 2013

I apologize for the late update.

Items discussed at the #wordpress-sfd IRC meeting:

Awareness of how we behave in the community

This topic took up about 40+ minutes of the IRC #wordpress-sfd and was discussed. I’m also happy to say the topic was also well received and everyone is more aware of the issue and how to handle this going forward. You can read more about it at Siobhan’s post and also as well as on make/support.

TracTrac Trac is the place where contributors create issues for bugs or feature requests much like GitHub.https://core.trac.wordpress.org/. topic regarding the ro.forums.wordpress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org/ support forums

Kim Parsell brought up this trac ticket that discussed commercial support in the Romanian WordPress support forums. Trac is not really the best place for people to post that. The ticket was discussed briefly on the wp-forums list and the outcome was a note asking if anyone wants to volunteer to moderate that forum.

The make/support User Manual needs some Docs love

In make/support is a User Manual that desperately needs some attention as well as possibly a new/better home. There was some discussion but this topic is still on hold for the time being.

  2. Epub Docs – There was an offer to publish the WP Docs in epub format, but unfortunately, it required proprietary code, which is a no-go on wordpress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org/, so we won’t be pursuing this at this time.
  3. Inline Docs – @kimparsell is working to finalize the standards change re: the parser and they’re making steady progress; currently at 73 files completed, 185 files total (39.45%)
  4. WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. They're one of the places where the WordPress community comes together to teach one another what they’ve learned throughout the year and share the joy. Learn more. Sofia Contributor DayContributor Day Contributor Days are standalone days, frequently held before or after WordCamps but they can also happen at any time. They are events where people get together to work on various areas of https://make.wordpress.org/ There are many teams that people can participate in, each with a different focus. https://2017.us.wordcamp.org/contributor-day/ https://make.wordpress.org/support/handbook/getting-started/getting-started-at-a-contributor-day/. – @kimparsell and @sewmyheadon have posted some guidance for the contributors at WordCamp Sofia for Inline Docs and Handbooks.

Plugins update, October 24, 2013

I’ve been traveling the last couple of weeks and have missed a couple of updates, sorry about that.

Mika and I have managed to clear out the plugins queue completely (as of last night) of all plugins awaiting their first review. Plugins still in the queue include those submitted today (33 of them) and those waiting on a response from the developer.

Accessibility Team Update: October 23, 2013

Thanks to @grahamarmfield for the new welcome message on Make WordPress Accessible and for the new page Get Involved with the Make WordPress Accessible Team.

We have draft theme check Accessibility Guidelines and need a tag to attach to themes that make it through the voluntary process to be approved as accessible themes. We decided to do some user research to determine which terms people use when searching. We will use that info to inform our choice of tags.

In order to help do that research the team decided to start a Facebook page to hopefully reach people we are not reaching now with this blog, our @WPAccessibility account, and our LinkedIn WordPress Accessibility Group. We will also reach out to our local WordPress MeetupMeetup All local/regional gatherings that are officially a part of the WordPress world but are not WordCamps are organized through https://www.meetup.com/. A meetup is typically a chance for local WordPress users to get together and share new ideas and seek help from one another. Searching for ‘WordPress’ on meetup.com will help you find options in your area. groups to help us do the tag research. Finally, we have asked @samuelsidler to find out if there are stats for theme search that we can use to further refine our selection of a tag or tags.

We will also review content inventory on this blog and pages and give some love to our Accessibility Codex page.

Core Group Update for October 21, 2013

Hello there! It’s time for a CoreCore Core is the set of software required to run WordPress. The Core Development Team builds WordPress. Group update!

On the 3.7 Release:

  • On Friday, October 18, 2013, RC1 was released.
  • If the stars align, we’re expecting a final release before this Friday, or if not, early next week. We’re really trying to avoid a Friday release. Really. For sure. (Okay, maybe that last bit is just from me)
  • There has been intensive testing of automatic upgrades by individual users and hosts, including mass upgrades on the part of GoDaddy (props @kurtpayne).
  • We’re no longer removing all transients on database upgrade, and only removing expired ones ([25838]).

On the 3.8 Release:

  • Twenty Fourteen: Missed in the previous update, per Twenty Fourteen chat, there will be a slider, albeit as a compromise, disabled by default. Since Featured Content may not be ready for 3.8, users will be able to assign content to the slider through the use of a tag.
