Static front-page improvements
We’re in the middle of testing some users through a few “WordPress as a CMS” scenarios. One of the items that really stands out as needing some attention is the static front page setting in Settings->Reading (I’m sure this comes as no surprise to many of you
).
I worked on a quick concept (with some helpful feedback from Jane) to get things rolling in #16379. Feel free to add your thoughts to that ticket.
If any of you devs want to work on a patch for this, you’d get a big gold star in my book!

I use Softaculous to handle my initial install, as well as customize title and tagline at this stage. Once the install is finished, I log in to the dashboard and follow this process:
Also, here is a setting I wish I could make: Since 99% of my clients need a CMS, I really really wish there was a setting to TURN OFF discussions and pingbacks on static pages. Thankfully most theme frameworks I use provide this option, but I really wish it was in core. I also wish there were a way to easily export and import settings, since I tend to have to follow this 10 step process a lot.
