#18197 – New Admin Bar/Header Combo
As you know part of the scope for 3.3 was a revised admin bar that would reduce duplication in the admin header. The first draft of it has been posted to Trac.

It needs a color refresh, some optimization, some decisions about which links going where, etc, but is the starting point we are using. Would like to get it back toward the lighter gray we used in the header before, but with some border maybe so it doesn’t look like browser chrome. Fiddling with the links and stuff will happen on Trac, but if anyone wants to mock up some color variations, we have until Sunday.

same grey as highlighted menu.. more integrated but looks weird when the dashboard is highlighted. should we go lighter?

The lighter gray, IMO, gets lost. If it was a lot darker (not quite black, but not a real light gray) it would look nice.
I’m really digging hhsandi’s blue version .. quite nice

I’m not sure how that would be addressed, but there’s a weird overlap on Chrome too.
When I expanded search, the last toolbar wrapped around below the W.

(Though I think Network Admin should go as a link under the Me! Icon on the right. Save space.)

Cross-posting this comment from #18197:
I think that the “W” dropdown needs to be moved to the right of the Admin menu. As it is, the “W” menu dropdown obscures the Admin menu. I found that behavior to be highly disruptive (I was aiming for the Dashboard link, and accidentally moused too high).

Chip – How is that different from 3.2 today where the ‘Me’ menu flys out when I aim for Dash and mouse too high? It’s not a ‘new’ problem.
