UI Consistency Feedback
Per today’s meeting, let’s start putting together a list of UI inconsistencies that we can fix for 3.1. Go through the admin and note down any inconsistencies found by leaving a comment on this post!
IMPORTANT:
99% of the time when talking about UI related stuff, screenshots are incredibly useful and save a lot time for the person reading your comment. Mac users, please use something like http://getcloudapp.com for easy screenshot uploading and sharing, if anyone could let me know of a Windows equivalent to recommend: that would be awesome.

Widgets Delete Link: See Ticket #11378: Add “Remove” link to Widget instances which moves them to “Inactive” area (Not so much about formatting, but it is related.)

Ah, I see. It has been fixed in the trunk, but is still around in 3.0.1.

‘Add Category’ button, incorrect style?

This also applied to ‘Add Featured Image’.
Perhaps they could be the same type of buttons as ‘Add Menu Item’ on the Menu Editor?

This one should remain a link, since it’s a link/toggle rather than a publishing action (primary or otherwise.) There is an additional button for saving a new category when the box is toggled open.
See: Buttons/Links in the Style Guide!

Ah, that makes sense. Yay style guide!
Maybe removing the symbol could be considered. The other links I see in this style just state the action.

On the Post -> Categories and Link ->Link Categories pages (The one with the list of current categories as well as a form to add a new one), I’m not sure if the “Add New Category” button should stay a secondary button or should be a big blue primary button or not. Jane?

(the second could be too complicated)

Gutters between Fixed (aprx 280px) + Flexible column layouts aren’t standardized.
Post/Add New Page
Flex + 20px gutter + 280px
Menus
282px + 18px gutter + Flex
Widgets
5px + Flex + ? gutter + 5px(auto) + 285px + 5px(auto)
Dashboard
5px + Flex + 5px + {padding-right: .5% (aprx 5px)} + 5px + Flex… etc.
(Gutter aprx 15px)
Metadata (Categories, Tags)
97%/39% + 2% gutter + 59%
- this one can/should be a little different, since a section of it is not contained by ui boxes.

Ah ha! We have a ticket that partially covers this! Ticket #12789: Inconsistent left margin on admin screens

Standardize box padding/margins.
This example highlights the padding differences for the Categories tab box used on both the Edit Post and Navigation Menus screens.

Available & Inactive Widgets Headers use non-standard colors for background gradient, text-color etc. If nothing else, we should change the background color to better match the gradient. (The gradient is lighter & less rounded than the standard one.)
Background: #AAAAAA edbg.gif (gradient: #E9E9E9 to #E1E1E1)
Color: #333333 (Hover: #D54E21)

Some other things already noted. Ticket #14081: UI Inconsistencies

How to text in ‘Post Tags’ box is italicized (.how-to paragraph class), while all other modules have normal how-to text.
Apply .how-to class to all “How to” text, or remove from Post Tags box.

I believe TinyGrab works well under Windows http://alternativeto.net/software/tiny-grab/ . Droplr is another Mac options: http://droplr.com/hello

Do we really need a field for “slug” under screen-options, when the slug is already editable below the post title?

It’s incredibly hard to move meta-boxes between columns on the post screen due to JS glitches.

More on this. I only have this issue when moving things to the bottom of the side column underneath 2 or more metaboxes. It goes smoothly when dragging the box between other boxes or dropping them into the first two slots.
I’m using Google Chrome v6.0.472.62 on Mac OS X 10.6.4

This may be more of a usability suggestion more than an inconsistency, just let me know.
When setting a featured image, after you click the action to set it, the “Set Featured Image” dialog persists.
I’ve had several clients confused by this. Perhaps after its set, the dialog could close? I don’t think they’d want to stay in the dialog to upload more photos and if they did they might just use the media buttons in the content area.

Some of the users in the #wordpress IRC channel are saying they’re not able to post comments here. Bug on the bug reporting thread?

Commenting was closed on here until recently, I opened it up about a week ago. Should work fine now.
