First Module: Child Themes of course!

I have been talking this week with Tracy Levesque (@LilJimmi) who is my FAVORITE child themeChild theme A Child Theme is a customized theme based upon a Parent Theme. It’s considered best practice to create a child theme if you want to modify the CSS of your theme. https://developer.wordpress.org/themes/advanced-topics/child-themes/. trainer in the WP world. She and I have discussed her awesome curriculum that she has used to teach child themes at: Philly WPs MeetupMeetup All local/regional gatherings that are officially a part of the WordPress world but are not WordCamps are organized through https://www.meetup.com/. A meetup is typically a chance for local WordPress users to get together and share new ideas and seek help from one another. Searching for ‘WordPress’ on meetup.com will help you find options in your area. Group, WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. They're one of the places where the WordPress community comes together to teach one another what they’ve learned throughout the year and share the joy. Learn more. NYC, WordCamp Montreal, Girl Develop It Philly, Web Start Women in Philly, & Philly Tech Week. I think it and she are a perfect way to build content for this.

She will be placing an outline + her content that will be fleshed out by us all into a script. I am hoping we can be in agreement and done with it in the next 2 weeks.

I included modifying css, modifying Templates and making new templates. I feel those 3 items illustrate how Child Themes work. I didn’t touch functions.php because I feel like you could do an entire 2-day class on that 🙂

The Summary needs some help and it needs Quiz questions.

Loving this! Keep up the fantastic work. I think it’s a huge service to provide clear documentation on how things like Child Themes work, in a clear concise way. Rock on 🙂

Also, not sure if this is the right place for this feedback (please let me know where if not here), but I think the headings “Modifying the Parent Theme’s CSSCSS CSS is an acronym for cascading style sheets. This is what controls the design or look and feel of a site.” and “Modifying the Parent Theme’s Template Files” are a bit misleading. Your excellent into to this module states “never modify WordPress files”, including parent theme files, so when I read the following headings my red flags went off. My suggestion would simply be to change the wording from “Modifying” to “Overriding”. That’s all – thanks!
