Theme Review Incentive: February 2014 Winners

Welcome to the Themes team!

We are a group of volunteers who review and approve themes submitted to be included in the official WordPress Theme directory.

We do license, security, and code quality reviews.

We help build and maintain default themes.

The primary focus of the team is to help theme authors transition to blockBlock Block is the abstract term used to describe units of markup that, composed together, form the content or layout of a webpage using the WordPress editor. The idea combines concepts of what in the past may have achieved with shortcodes, custom HTML, and embed discovery into a single consistent API and user experience.-based themes.

Handbooks and review requirements

The team maintains the official Theme Review Requirements, the Theme Unit Test Data, and helps the documentation team with the Theme Developer Handbook.

Coding standards and plugins

We maintain the WPThemeReview Standard for PHP_CodeSniffer, the Theme Sniffer plugin and Theme Check

Code Packages

We have code packages for themes available for use on Github and Packagist

Communication

As you may recall, last month we announced changes to the Theme review incentive program, both opening up the incentive to more winners, and adding in a measure of accountability. Per those changes, we are pleased to announce the following winners for February 2014.

Please post a comment below, indicating your Featured Theme selection.

For the month, there were a total of 88 new Themes added to the directory by 21 reviewers, and 369 Theme updates added by 16 reviewers. The eligibility requirements for this month were 8 New Themes approved, and 92 Theme updates approved.

Featured Theme Rotation

Per the program changes, all Themes but the following will be removed from the list:

Twenty Fourteen
Twenty Thirteen

Note: review totals are taken as a snapshot at an arbitrary point in time, based on this Theme-Trac report, and varying the filters as appropriate. Totals are as accurate as reasonably possible.

Hey guys,

Seems like we made the cut-off point too (based on the report you ran as well), we have 8 matches, and the eligibility requirement is 8. Shouldn’t we be in the winners list for new themes too, then?

  For transparency sake would it be possible to make a snapshot (a screenshot?) of the report used from the moment winners are announced?

    I’m not particularly inclined to do that, for a few reasons: one, all the information is available via Theme-TracTrac Trac is the place where contributors create issues for bugs or feature requests much like GitHub.https://core.trac.wordpress.org/. reports, using the available filters; two, unless I have a way to automatically exclude ineligible reviews (tickets that had to be reopened by admins post-approval), I don’t want to do anything that would emphasize that some reviewers had a certain number of tickets reopened (the point of the program is to emphasize the *positive*, not the *negative*); and three, trying to take and post screenshots of a Trac report adds administrative time and complexity to the process, for little-to-no gain.

  I thought both New Themes and Theme Updates combined result make the eligibility requirement. Was bit confusing.

    They’re counted separately, because new Themes and Theme updates are prioritized differently, and also because the amount of work involved in reviewing and approving them is considerably different.
