Static Front Page

This article describes the standardized way of creating a static front pageStatic Front Page A WordPress website can have a dynamic blog-like front page, or a “static front page” which is used to show customized content. Typically this is the first page you see when you visit a site url, like wordpress.org for example., which should work most themes.

By default, WordPress shows your most recent posts on the front page of your site. But many WordPress users want to have a static front page or splash page as the front page instead. This “static front page” look is common for those who wish to create a more standard website look with their own custom content.

When you create a static front page for your site, you must also create a way for WordPress to show your recent posts on another Page. You must do this whether you intend to use Posts or not.

Note: Some themes may incorporate “front page” type features of their own. In these situations, consult the theme’s documentation for details of how to set it up on your site.

• Click Pages → Add New in your Dashboard.
• Give your new Page a title (e.g. “Home”)
• Type the content you want displayed on the front page of your site and publish the Page.
• Create another new Page.
• Give this second new Page a different title (e.g. “Blog”)
• Don’t add any content to this Page because it will be displaying youir recent Posts – not any added content.
• Publish the second new Page.

1. Click Settings → Reading in your Dashboard.
2. Under “Enable a static front page”, tick “Show a page instead of your latest posts”
3. Use the dropdown to select the new static front page.
4. Add the name of the second new page for your Posts

You should now see something like the following:

Save your changes. Then go and admire your new static front page.
