I need validators and contributors for Tamil. I see Tamil (Sri Lanka) well-developed, but not Tamil. I beg to know why. Also, I would like to have a Tamil or Tamil (India) for WordPress for Windows Mobile. How to go about this? I’m willing to contribute, but without validators, I think it is useless.

Hello,
Greetings!
I am not sure this is the right place, but I also wish to be a validator for Tamil at WordPress.com. Please add me.

In principle no, but it looks like a Tamil translation isn’t being maintained, aside from this Google Group (which I can’t read). It would maybe a good ideia to present the Getting Started guide to that group and see if you can gather a team for the Tamil translation.

Bage, I see that you also posted your request on the WordPress.com Translations forum (which is the right place) – I’ve responded there, thanks!

I have just noticed in the update page of wordpress (ta_LK) installation, the link to “3.3-ta_LK download” leads to http://ta.wordpress.org/wordpress-3.3-ta_LK.zip instead of http://ta-lk.wordpress.org/wordpress-3.3-ta_LK.zip
How do I fix it?
Thank you.

Maybe I need coffee again, but I can’t locate a single instance of a link to http://ta.wordpress.org/…

Ze, the link is suppose to be http://ta-lk.wordpress.org/wordpress-3.3-ta_LK.zip. We only have http://ta-lk.wordpress.org. there is no http://ta.wordpress.org yet.
In the update page of my local installation of the ta_LK wordpress the link is suppose to be http://ta-lk.wordpress.org/wordpress-3.3-ta_LK.zip. But it is now leads to http://ta.wordpress.org/wordpress-3.3-ta_LK.zip
Am i confusing?

A kind volunteer has translated the Android app to Tamil. Do we have a Tamil validator here that can validate these strings?

Tamil doesn’t have a validator yet. But Tamil (Sri Lanka) is active. I have contacted the person to do the translation in Tamil (Sri Lanka.)

Hi Zé,
Could you please add Tamil(Sri Lanka) to WordPress for Android, WordPress for BlackBerry, WordPress for Windows Phone and to WordPress Plugins please?

Zé
I can, but keep in mind that, from now on, you will need a ta-lk.wordpress.org site, see: http://wppolyglots.wordpress.com/2011/07/19/validators-are-now-controlled-through-rosetta/#comment-3746

Actually we have the ta-lk.wordpress.org site and I am the admin and doing validation. But Tamil(Sri Lanka) didn’t get added to the mentioned projects. I am not sure how to add that from the ta-lk.wordpress.org admin panel.
Bage.

Zé
You cannot add the projects (we still need to do that), but you need the site to manage validators, even if you’re the only one.
-
Bage
Yes I understand that, And i will do that through the site (i went through your post explaining that) . my initial request is to add the language to those projects.

Ok. Could you indicate the site’s title and description? Something like:
Title: WordPress தமிழ் (இலங்கை)
Description: (the equivalent of “WordPress in Tamil (Sri Lanka)”, in your language) -
Bage
Ze,
We already have the site. It is in http://ta-lk.wordpress.org/. Please check.

Hello Zé,
I see the tamil (Sri lanka) has been added to WordPress for Android, WordPress for BlackBerry, WordPress for Windows Phone and to WordPress Plugins. But when i try to translate, they stay in waiting. (I have editor role in ta-lk.wordpress.org).
When i add translations to the ones i have been translating for a while (Wordpres, bbpress etc..) they get directly saved.
Could you please check?

Could you try logging out, clearing caches & cookie and logging back in again?

i tried, but no luck. The only projects i am not able to validate are “WordPress for Android”, “WordPress for Blackberry” and “WordPress for Windows Mobile”.
All the other projects I am able to validate without any problem.

Sri Lanka is using the code tam (and ta_LK for wp-config), is Tamil (india) the same language?

Tamil (Sri Lanka) is somewhat different from Tamil (India), in the sense that some common words differ, for example, ‘to say’ is used as கதைத்தல் more commonly in Sri Lankan Tamil, while it is சொல்லுதல் or பேசுதல் in Tamil (India), where we don’t use that word. That is why there is TA, and TA-LK. ISO 639-2 should be ‘tam’ for both, I guess. 639-1 would be ‘ta’.

Tamil is given separate from Tamil (Sri Lanka), so it should be the base one. Instead of asking for a Tamil (India), I think it’s wiser that I ask for the development of ‘Tamil’ itself. I hope I haven’t rambled. In answer to your question, Tamil is the same language, but in Sri Lanka, they speak it a bit differently. I would not want a ta_IN config, rather I would help translate for TA itself (ta.wordpress.com/org). Currently there is only ta-lk.wordpress.org, I note.

I now see that ta.wordpress.com exists, but with incomplete and improper translations. How should I help?
Ze Fontainhas 12:41 pm on June 18, 2013 Permalink | Log in to Reply
http://ta.wordpress.com might exist, but deal exclusively with WordPress.org. If you want to start a translation of WordPress.org for Tamil, please read this first.
