Hi, I couldn’t find a thread for translating JetPack to bulgarian, and if there is indeed no such how could I start translating it?
-
Kazama
Jetpack is the project of wordpress.com. You should ask at http://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/translations. This blog is for wordpress.org only.

We have no powers on http://translate.wordpress.com/ here, I’m afraid. Please post your request in the WordPress.com Translation Forum.

Got it. Will apply it in the WordPress.com Translation Forum.

Hello there,
I didn’t found any Arabic translation for Jetpack.
I’ll be more than pleased to do it.
Please let me know if there is a procedure that i should do before posting the translation.
Thanks in advance for guiding me
-
Jeremy Herve
Hi!
You can work on the Arabic translation and propose new strings here:

Piotrekkk
Can you add me as a translator for the Polish version?

Mikkel Breum
I’d like to translate the JetPack Contact Form to Danish. Can’t find it on translate.wordpress.org. I’ve seen that jetpack is on translate.wordpress.com/projects/jetpack but that seems like the wrong place to translate the .org plugin.. Should/could Jetpack be added to http://translate.wordpress.org/projects/wp-plugins ?
BTW: why is there two separately maintained translations tracks for .org/.com ?
-
Mark Thomas Gazel
It is the right place to translate it. I guess it’s because Jetpack is partly driven by the wordpress.org cloud.
There are two seperate translation tracks because they use the same core, but are still different in many ways. I talked to @joen about it at WordCamp.
-
Mikkel Breum
OK, and what about capitalization in the danish translation.. if the original string says ‘Show Wall’ do I then translate it to ‘Vis Væg’ or ‘Vis væg’?
-
Zé
Almost every manual I know (and I know a few) would recommend, in your case, ‘Vis væg’. The fad of capitalizing every word in a sentence seems to stem from the Chicago Manual of Style’s rule for capitalizing titles. In WordPress it is now standard practice to capitalize almost everything, which is not only particularly annoying, but also very often confusing for determining context.
Most translators choose to ignore the capitalization and just build proper sentences.
-
Mark Thomas Gazel
I concur.
I’ve avoided capitalization unless it’s a name for something e.g. Dashboard.

Where are the string for Jetpack forms? i.e. http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/3115/0jp2.png
-

I checked with the dev team and Michael Adams said this is fixed now. There are 72 new strings in the 1.3 project for everybody:

Oh thanks

jenialaszlo
Jetpack 1.3 will be released in a couple of days, and the Automattic team would love it if you could help out with translations, especially Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, and Dutch (all regional flavors welcome
).The GlotPress project has already been preloaded with translations pulled from WordPress.com and previous Jetpack versions. There are 465 strings in this release, and many languages are already above 50%.
There is a slight chance that a couple of strings will change before the release, as 1.3 is still going through the final testing. We’ll post a note here if that happens.
If you would like to have a language added to Jetpack and/or or want to be assigned as a validator for your language (especially if you already validate WordPress translations), please leave a comment and we will help you out.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi Jenia,
Did some more translations for pt_BR, but GlotPress is not behaving well with this translation:
↵ Sent by a verified %s user.
It issues this error message, event if I just do ‘Copy from original’
Warning: Original and translation should both begin on newline.
Regards,
Gabriel-
Zé
Reproduced. Even if you insert a newline in the translation, it gets stripped. Hence it’s both a GP issue (stripping the newline) and a Jetpack issue (why does a string need to start with a newline character, to begin with?)
-
Remkus de Vries
There are quite some strings in WP with the same newline character.
-
Jenia
Thanks to y’all for the reports, we will be looking into this.
-
-
Andrew Nacin
If someone can put this into a GlotPress ticket, I can look.
-
-
mdawaffe
I removed the leading newline from the source and copied the translation of the previous string to the new one.
-
Gabriel Reguly
Thanks for fixing it.

Can add the wordpress validators as me for jetpack too? thanks
-
Jenia
Ciao, I added you as the validator for Jetpack 1.3 in Italian. Thanks for your help!
-
-
Wacław J.
Is it possible to set per-project validators?
-
Jenia
You bet. There can be different validators per project or per sub-project (e.g. someone can be a validator for WordPress.com but not Jetpack, or be a validator for Jetpack 1.2 but not 1.3). Why?
-
Wacław J.
How do I do that?
-
Jenia
You need to be able to grant validator permissions, i.e. be a GlotPress admin for that install. In case of Jetpack in particular, someone from Automattic (me, for example) can assign different validators per project. If you need help with that, just let me know (although I am not sure why you would need that, since only the active translation project of Jetpack is important).
-
Wacław J.
Great to know that. Thanks.

Can you include, please, Sanskrit (sa_IN) with me as validator?
I am working on Sanskrit for WordPress 3.4, and it would be nice to have Jetpack plugin translated also.
Thank you.-
Jenia
Here is the project: http://translate.wordpress.com/projects/jetpack/1.3/sa-in/default
What is your wordpress.com username, please?
A good start is to import .po of whatever translations you already have available (wordpress.org, in your case) – saves some time.-
Carlos Eduardo G. Barbosa
My WP.com username is carledug.
Thank you.-
Jenia
You’ve been added as a validator for Jetpack in Sanskrit (sa-in), thank you for your help!

The string ‘Resore this item from the Trash’ is mispelled. Please correct it.
-
Jenia
I am not finding this string (might have been fixed between when you saw it and now), could you please post a link here if you are still able to see it? Thank you!
-
Carlos Eduardo G. Barbosa
The mispelling is still found at

What are freedom levels? Could you explain what is meant with that in order to find a good translation.
-
mdawaffe
The publisher of a VideoPress video may flag the video to never use flash: the video may only be played in an HTML5 video capable browser.
If your browser does not support HTML5 video, that “freedom levels” message is shown.
The link is to http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-sw.html
-
mdawaffe
I agree it’s not a very helpful error message
-
Martin (IQ)
I agree.
And it’s a translators nightmare as well. I’ve checked several translations (with the help of translate.google.com) and found not one that made sense to me. Indeed, I would go so far as to say that a lot of them are translated completely wrong and in a misleading way. What this error message basically wants to say is “Your browser doesn’t support HTML5 video playback”, right? So why not just saying this? I know it’s tempting to mention some gnu philosophy here and there but why do you give us translators such a hard time?
-
mdawaffe
Technically it’s “The author of this video has decided it may only be played using non-proprietary technology. Your browser must support HTML5 video playback (an open technology) to play this video”.
The intention was not to give translators a hard time. The intention was to promote open technologies. It’s just badly written.
The string isn’t going to change for this release of Jetpack.
-
Martin (IQ)
Thanks for clarification. This helps at least to find a better translation.
-
Martin (IQ)
btw. the translations of “freedom levels” I’ve found range from “plains of freedom” to a very free translation of “you’re not authorized”.

Jetpack 1.3 is about to launch. Thanks so much for all your time and efforts. We really appreciate it.
We’re happy to launch 1.3.x releases to improve translation, so please don’t let this 1.3 release stop you from contributing if there’s more to do in one of your languages

Can you set me as a validator for Polish?

Hello there.
In es_ES forums someone has reported that some parts of Jetpack are impossible to translate.
I took a look and, in fact, module descriptions are untranslatable. I have reported it in http://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/1333
-
Zé
It’s a known issue. Thanks for the ticket.

Merci !
