request: can you please add me (vamsitech) to the validators group for Telugu. I am very much interested in getting the telugu translation completed.

      Please try http://te.wordpress.org/contact/ first, thanks.

        hi Ze,
that’s where I started. I was told by the admin Veeven to request the access on this forum instead.

I don’t get it. Is Veeven having problems with adding you to te.wordpress.org? I’d need some kind of confirmation from him (right here is fine).

Here is the email I got from Veeven.

Please request in WP Polyglots: https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/

            Thanks,
            Veeven.

Look, I am willing to extend all kinds of leeway and everything, but I really need a confirmation from Veeven himself, as I am sure you understand.

That’s fine. I am not gaining anything (personally) by getting access to this translation. I am just trying to help and if it takes for ever, too bad but its OK.

I will just do my piece in the translation and lets hope someone else can approve all the translations. Its been over a week since I updated 110 Telugu translations but seems like no one is around to approve the translations.

Also, I was looking at the rest of the Indian languages and many of them have the format xx_IN but Telugu is setup as ‘te’. Why is that?

            • Ze Fontainhas 1:20 pm on August 23, 2012 Permalink

I am not trying to stop you from managing the translation, quite the opposite, but put yourself in my shoes, I can’t simply switch admins on request. The previous admin needs to ok it.

As to te versus te_IN, we usually only add the country code when there is a need for disambiguation (for example for supporting a variant of Telugu spoken elsewhere)

Yes. I do not know I can make someone as validator. I tried in https://translate.wordpress.org/projects But, I did not find any pointers to user rights or something.

Am I missing something? Or, can you please point to to the location?

      Oh, Thanks, Ze.

      VamsiTech,

First of all, sorry for the delay and the confusion. I did not know I had gotten the rights. (If you see my earlier request post, that did not have any confirmation.)

Second of all, thanks for volunteering for Telugu.

I am reviewing your translations. Here is an early feedback: Some of your translations are really good. Few lacked consistency (e.g., రాండం vs యాదృచ్చికం). Some did not use localized terms coined in projects like MediaWiki and LibreOffice (e.g., save → భద్రపరచు, text → పాఠ్యం). Few full sentence translations did not follow word order natural to Telugu.

You may choose to leave out the complex admin interface messages for now and concentrate on high-visibility terms of the themes and then simple messages of admin interface.

Towards the consistency of localization terms, I also recommend you join telugupadam.org and FUEL Telugu efforts.
