Hi again! When I built the Norwegian 3.5-beta-1 package, the .mo/.po files for twentyten and twentyeleven are included, but not for twentytwelve… is it possible to fix?

Hi, now that 3.5-beta-1 is released… Could we please get a corresponding project in rosetta? Now, when trying to build a package, I can only choose “3.4 and 3.4.x”… Also: translators beware, over at translate.wordpress.org, translation counts seem off… I thought all strings were translated, but they weren’t…

Hello! I just noticed that the “localized version screenshot” has disappeared from http://nb.wordpress.org… And when I tried uploading a new screenshot, I got an error, saying that the upload folder could not be created… (is the folder writeable to the server?).. Could you please help? Thanks
-
Sergey Biryukov
Hmm. On ru.wordpress.org, screenshots are still displayed, however all the other images and thumbnails from Media Library are gone: http://cl.ly/image/0y1R0N0D1N3y

I’m getting ’404 – File not found’ on bs.wordpress.org for uploaded images.

Good initiative, thanks

Thanks. Highly needed. Some info here on wppolyglots about the issue from the maintainers might be useful, too.

Nice

Also, I managed to reproduce the annoying caching issue on my Apache server. Maybe something simillar could be applied here to fix this?

Would be appreciated if maintainers looked into this issue, especially considering that we are in the middle of a release cycle. It has been very quiet (this also applies to earlier mentioned cache issue, issues that might be related).

Hi! Could we please set up a forum for nb.wordpress.org? Looking into possibility of migrating from “norskwp.no/forum” — which is using bbPress. Would it be possible to import posts from there?
-
Zé
We can setup the forum, but migration is going to be a headache, because of the missing .org user profile. We (pt) did that change a while ago and opted to start afresh and leave the old forum in read-only mode, for a while, for reference purposes.

I see that continents-cities.po has been added to glotpress! Could you add me as validator for nb_NO? @peterhol
-
Rafael Poveda - RaveN
Same for es_ES – @bi0xid

Thanks! -
Zé
I’ll add all current validators for wp core, no need to request it

everything is going much faster now with WP 3.2

Need a favor: you are listed as a validator for .com, could you take a look a the strings pending approval, when you get a chance? Thanks.
-
Peter
well I can start.. but I must confess I can’t really give this priority. I don’t use wordpress.com (except this blog… and that’s in English…) And there is just sooo much to do in the Norwegian translation. But anyways: seems I’m still not validator in the Jetpack project – I can only suggest strings, not validate them…

Try now?

Peter, are you a team leader of the norwegian translation team for WordPress? I can contribute.
Is there a glossary for WordPress terms, so we use the same translation for the same terms?
There is one term I have never been familiar with, the translation of “plugin” to “innstikk”. I have never seen it elsewhere. Common translations are “programtillegg”, “tillegg” and “utvidelse”.
There is a new term in WP 3.2 “drop-in” which is a special kind of plugin. What shall we call it?
Other difficult terms are header and footer. Common translation of header is “topptekst”, but it is not necessarily a text. It can be an image. What about “sidetopp” or just “topp”?-
Peter
Hi, contributions are always welcome
- We started a glossary a while back: http://code.google.com/p/no-wp/wiki/Ordliste – but it might not be 100 % up-to-date. Feel free to suggest additions/alterations.
- Regarding “Innstikk”, that has been the term used for a while. I haven’t heard anyone reacting to its use before, so I suspect changing it now would only lead to unnecessary confusion…
- I don’t think drop-in is new… We’ve used “Innslipp” before (filter by drop-in)..
- I agree that “topptekst” is not an ideal translation for header. “sidetopp” seems better.. (and here I see that it might lead to LESS confusion, so that’s a good thing
) But you have to realize that if we change this, we’ll have to do test it for consistency.. (looking at all instances of “header” in the strings to make sure “sidetopp” fits snugly everywhere…)

In WP 3.1, I sometimes see english texts in (error-)messages. A scan with the plugin Codestyling Localization found 988 untranslated strings. But in the GlotPress project, there were no untranslated strings. Are the translations not approved or deployed?
-
Peter
There are no untranslated strings in the public releases – I make sure there are only “green” strings in GlotPress… There may, theoretically, be unlocalized strings in the codebase, or there may be some issues with GlotPress. Could you please describe steps to reproduce the english (error) messages?
-
sulfsby
I do not remember where I saw theese messages. I see however that in the dashboard the string “Other WordPress News” is used, even if it is translated.
I investigated the result of the scan by Codestyling Localization and forund that the untranslated strings seems to be related to the multisite version. There is also a list of continents and cities which is untranslated.
-
Peter
- I think “Other WordPress News” is set at installation… not entirely sure… but you can change the name manually, anyways…
- ok I haven’t used codestyling localization, but please check that you have all the latest files (you can use http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/localize/ )
- continents-cities-nb_NO.mo and -.po are bundled with the norwegian packages at http://nb.wordpress.org/ . But it’s not in GlotPress, it’s in svn. This is the same for all continents-cities-xx_XX.mo files. The files are also available here: http://svn.automattic.com/wordpress-i18n/nb_NO/trunk/messages/

I looked over your translations in the 3.2 branch. Accepted most of it directly
thanks! One thing though: Look out for excess whitespace before, inside and after html tags…-
sulfsby
By an error I seem to have translatede some strings that were already translated.
-
Peter
ok I’ll check…
Her må man se på konteksten.

Hi! Can someone create a nb_NO (Norwegian bokmål) locale for BuddyPress at GlotPress? And add me as validator? thanks

Hi all! I just noticed that on wordpress.org, when visiting from a Norwegian IP, you see this on the front page:
Don’t really know if this is the place for these things… but it should read “WordPress is also available in Norsk (bokmål) and Norsk (nynorsk).”
-
Peter
who should I talk to about wordpress.org, really?
-
-
Peter Holme
I didn’t see this until now… a few of the central dist-files have been slightly changed from 3.0.x to 3.1…

Thanks for the heads up. It would’ve been very easy to just copy pasta the current translated version

I also got mailed by a user on this topic. Thanks for heads up!

When preparing a new localized package, I guess it’s a good idea to download the English release and compare these files (including readme.html) to the ones from a previous release as a part of general sanity check.
-
xavier
I always check about that directly in Trac. For instance:
-
Peter
But perhaps it is a bit unnecessary for all polyglots to do this every time…? Especially since these files don’t change that often. If we post changes to wp-config-sample.php, setup-config.php and readme.html here when we see them – that would be a good thing for all polyglots, right? =)
-
-
Mark Thomas Gazel
Thanks. I usually check the files, but it’s nice to know what to expect. I do as Sergey. Download the english release a look for changes. I use WinMerge for the file comparison.
If there’s a smarter way or a better “compare files” tool I’m all ears.

I created a new page
with a tag policyon how to tag your posts… check it out!-
Remkus de Vries
Shouldn’t the BuddyPress and bbPress stuff be addressed as well?
-
Peter
sure… added.
-
-
Zé
Sweet. Added the ‘forums’ tag
-
Zé
Also added the ‘handbook’ tag (we keep forgetting about it)
-
Peter
I didn’t even know there was a handbook… I guess this is what Remkus and I thought we should add here: http://wppolyglots.wordpress.com/resources/
-
Zé
-
Peter
shouldn’t it be possible to render something like this:
http://nikolay.bg/mess/handbook.html
on this site? It’s of course easy with a stand-alone install, but is there any “fairy dust” one could cast? (either to render the files from http://docs.svn.wordpress.org/ or creating some sort of wiki?)
-

Zé
I think the page would be best called “How to tag your posts” and be shown on the sidebar
-
Remkus de Vries
Agreed
-
Peter
something like this? (see sidebar)

All right, I’ve posted some suggestions for improving the “mentions” functionality of the p2 theme to make this promising feature more useable: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/mentions?replies=1#post-1625903
(Discussion closed here, since it belongs in the forum)
Peter Holme
All right.. there was a problem with the first setup.. Basically I didn’t know how to spell polyglots. But now I do! Happy blogging
-
Remkus de Vries
I’m surprised it took us all that long to actually see that

(meaning $wp_version = ’3.4.3-alpha’; still shows up in version.php – and I’m not sure if other files are ok..)
