I had yo delete our pt_BR build because the translation wasn’t complete and I found errors, but now I can’t build it again. I tried but then I got the following error: “Impossível copiar /tmp/rosettanWjASY/pt_BR/dist/readme.html para /tmp/rosetta8UpsnO/wordpress!” Could somebody help us? Thanks

      Olá Cátia,

This is due to wrong build number, it should be 26747.

I have released the amended build.

      Regards,
      Gabriel

On our last meeting a week ago (https://irclogs.wordpress.org/chanlog.php?channel=wordpress-polyglots&day=2013-02-12&sort=asc) I promised Siobhan from the Docs team to find someone to own the Polyglots Handbook. However, the person I had in mind can”t help us right now. So, this is a call for volunteers. Someone needs to assume this task and it would be better if this person knew the process of starting a new locale.wordpress.org site, setting up locale forum, the translation process itself and building the packages. Anyone, please?

    Tags: global site

On december 18th we had an IRC meeting. One of the topics discussed was the Global Site idea we talked about during the Summit. After Jane Wells’ comment I had a deeper thought on this and I came up with the idea that this global site should be the make.wordpress.org homepage instead and it should be then translated to become the locale.wordpress.org main content, sice at least in Brazil, the locale homepage only use is the download button. Zé liked my idea and we decided to continue discussing it with everybody. I was to write it down here and explain it better. So basically, what I thought was that the make homepage should be more attractive and give more information to people interested in contributing with WordPress. So it should have short introductions to all the actions groups, what they are about, what people do there, who are involved, how to get involved, and the most important link to international groups: it should inform if you’re from XX country/language, who you should be in touch with, etc. I’m working on a draft of how this page should look like to better illustrate my idea.

guys, does anybody know when we import a po file to glotpress wether it imports only the untranslated strings or it substitute all translations? I’m asking because I’ve exported all the po files to review and proof-read them with poedit. I want to substitute all the strings that were changed by me. If it doesn’t, I’ll have to build our pt_BR package from the svn repository.

I’ve just found a string which needs plural format http://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/22749 The string is “selected” and it refers to the number of media selected on the insert media screen. I think it would be better if it could make into 3.5, since it’s on evidence and it’s a very ugly grammar mistake.

      Here are our options:

      • Leave as is. Sorry :-(
      • Change the string to “%d selected”, which would allow you to translate it as if it were “selected: %s”. We’d probably throw instructions into a translator’s comment for this one.
      • Change the string to “selected: %s”
      • Hack in JavaScript plural handling for this once instance (rather than the general API proposed in #22229)

I think Ze Fontainhas is the best person to opinate on that, because I don’t know how it affects other languages. I’d go for the “selected: %s”, though it still sounds strange in Portuguese, but much better than it is now.

Hi, Found a duplicated string in the wordpress-admin.pot file. Lines 1009 and 6823. The only difference is a missing full stop at wp-admin/edit-form-advanced.php:62

Done, but could you take a look at the user list of br.wordpress.org? Feels a little crowded…

      • Cátia Kitahara 12:46 pm on January 13, 2012 Permalink | Log in to Reply

Thanks, Zé. i’ve just looked into it. There’re 4 editors, which are me, Anderson, Gabriel and Guilherme. I suppose editors can build packages and make releases, right? So I think it’s ok to keep these ones. And there are 3 validators: Diana, Gabriel and Seu Felipe. Does this validator permission relate to translate.wordpress.org? If so, we can also keep these ones. The rest are just subscribers, may I delete these ones as they can’t do anything at all? But how did they become users? I’ve never added them.

        • 1:46 pm on January 13, 2012 Permalink | Log in to Reply

Feel free to remove subscribers, yes. They probably appeared as a result of the merge of permissions, a while back.

    Guys,
Something went wrong with the pt_BR version, it seems all of our 3.1.x’s strings aren’t aproved at translate.wordpress.org. Why is that if they were before when we released 3.1? could somebody help us please? Kind of urgent

    • Cátia Kitahara 6:52 pm on April 5, 2011 Permalink | Log in to Reply

By the way, I reckon there are too many people with aproval privileges, people I don’t even know, I’d rather it would be only me and Diana.

There were no string changes. Can you upload 3.1 to 3.1.1 while we look at it?

    Tags: $wp_default_secret_key,

    me again,
A user reported a problem related to the $wp_default_secret_key at pt_BR.php. This person says that when he updates his sites he can’t access the admin panel and get a message: “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.”. Deleting this file fixes the problem. What’s wrong here? The variable value in brazilian portuguese is the same in the wp-config.php file. So I guess it shouldn’t be a problem. could somebody help us, please?

    • Milan Dinić 1:39 pm on February 11, 2011 Permalink | Log in to Reply

Maybe problem is that he has default keys (as in core en_US version, ie. ‘put your unique phrase here’).

    • Sergey Biryukov 2:06 pm on February 11, 2011 Permalink | Log in to Reply

      http://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/14024

Milan is right about the potential reason, but actually it shouldn’t happen even with the default keys. I guess $wp_default_secret_key should also be translated in wp-includes/default-constants.php.

      • 2:45 pm on February 11, 2011 Permalink | Log in to Reply

That is correct. What we (pt) do is just leave it in English. It’s too easy to forget to translate.

        • Mattias Tengblad 3:23 pm on February 11, 2011 Permalink | Log in to Reply

So what you’re saying is that if we translate $wp_default_secret_key in wp-config-sample.php and setup-config.php we should also translate $wp_default_secret_key in default-constants.php? If so, where is this documented?

          • Sergey Biryukov 3:54 pm on February 11, 2011 Permalink | Log in to Reply

I’ve added a note on Files For Direct Translation.

To be clear, there’s no $wp_default_secret_key in setup-config.php.

When you translate it in default-constants.php, the string in wp-content/languages/<your-locale>.php is actually no longer necessary, however it’s still required to be there in order to build a localized package. So yes, currently it should be translated in all three places (wp-config-sample.php, <your-locale>.php, default-constants.php).

            • Da^MsT 3:59 pm on February 11, 2011 Permalink

Good to know, should have been pointed out earlier.

            • Cátia Kitahara 4:17 pm on February 11, 2011 Permalink

Wait, please. Just to clarify things. There are two possible solutions:
              1. Don’t translate the variable at wp-config-sample.php and don’t add the locale.php file
              2. Translate the variable at wp-config-sample.php and at default-constants.php and add the locale.php?
Both solutions are admissible, is that correct?

            • Milan Dinić 4:20 pm on February 11, 2011 Permalink

If you don’t translate it in locale.php file and you did translate it before, this could affect existing installations.

            • Cátia Kitahara 4:24 pm on February 11, 2011 Permalink

so my best approach should be translate the default-constants.php from now on?

            • Sergey Biryukov 5:54 pm on February 11, 2011 Permalink

Yep, until a proper solution is found. Currently it’s more like a workaround.

            • Milan Dinić 4:24 pm on February 11, 2011 Permalink

I don’t like this. Instead of reducing direct translation and simplification of that, we are adding more files, and complicate already complicated situation.

This is a clear sign of how i18n is getting in worse and worse position, how it is ignored, how there isn’t care to truly fix existing issues and to make improvements.

              +1

“Opened 8 months ago” (ticket mentioned above) kind of tells the story.

              Hi Mattias
This is Torbjörn (Translating BP to Swedish).
I have the same problem reports from swedish users.
              1. When does the problem occur? What WP versions?
              2. What is the workaround? renaming sv_se.php did help.
              3. Is this fixed in future versions (WP 3.1)
Please advice so i can give the users the correct answers.

I did a WP 3.0.1 install, upgraded to 3.0.5 and installed BP with no problems…

            • Mattias Tengblad 2:26 pm on February 17, 2011 Permalink

              1. From 3.0 and up
              2. Yup renaming or deleting sv_se.php will work. Tell the users to update their secure keys in wp-config manually.
              3. Yes, the workaround mentioned above is already applied in trunk (3.1).

Guys, I’ll make a request. Today I had to research the old polyglots mailing list archive, however, there was a message saying it’s not active anymore, because it has changed to this blog here. Could you please, leave at least a link to the archives? Sometimes its usefull, I’ve found what I needed searching at google, but a link on that page would be easier.
    Thanks

Hi Zé, on another thread you said we have 10 validators at translate.wordpress.org. I didn’t know about that, I thought it was only me and Frei. Who are the others? I don’t remember anybodyelse asking to become a validator. Depending on the names on that list we could change it. I thinks its better less people validating. Thanks

Here’s who I have for pt_BR: FabioFreitas, duquebilly, webdf, anatman, seufelipe, Dianakc and yourself. Actually “only” 7.

      • Cátia Kitahara 5:21 pm on February 11, 2011 Permalink | Log in to Reply

Well, FabioFreitas, may be removed, since he passed, unfortunately. The other ones, I don’t know why they are validators. Did they request? Hm, it’s kind of weird to ask to change their permissions. I know for sure, we can remove duquebilly, webdf and seufelipe. I’ll talk to Diana, she’s been helping a lot and she’s very good. I think we should keep her. But this anatman, I have never seen/talked to this person before. he/she is not at the group, I’d remove its permission as validator.
