On our last meeting a week ago (https://irclogs.wordpress.org/chanlog.php?channel=wordpress-polyglots&day=2013-02-12&sort=asc) I promised Siobhan from the Docs team to find someone to own the Polyglots Handbook. However, the person I had in mind can”t help us right now. So, this is a call for volunteers. Someone needs to assume this task and it would be better if this person knew the process of starting a new locale.wordpress.org site, setting up locale forum, the translation process itself and building the packages. Anyone, please?

On december 18th we had an IRC meeting…

On december 18th we had an IRC meeting. One of the topics discussed was the Global Site idea we talked about during the Summit. After Jane Wells’ comment I had a deeper thought on this and I came up with the idea that this global site should be the make.wordpress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org/ homepage instead and it should be then translated to become the locale.wordpress.org main content, sice at least in Brazil, the localeLocale Locale = language version, often a combination of a language code and a region code, for instance es_MX denotes Spanish as it’s used in Mexico. A list of all locales supported by WordPress in https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/ homepage only use is the download button. Zé liked my idea and we decided to continue discussing it with everybody. I was to write it down here and explain it better. So basically, what I thought was that the make homepage should be more attractive and give more information to people interested in contributing with WordPress. So it should have short introductions to all the actions groups, what they are about, what people do there, who are involved, how to get involved, and the most important link to international groups: it should inform if you’re from XX country/language, who you should be in touch with, etc. I’m working on a draft of how this page should look like to better illustrate my idea.

guys, does anybody know when we import a po file to glotpressGlotPress GlotPress is the translation management software that powers Translate.WordPress.org. More information is available at glotpress.org. wether it imports only the untranslated stringsString A string is a translatable part of the software. A translation consists of a multitude of localized strings. or it substitute all translations? I’m asking because I’ve exported all the po filesPO files PO files are human readable files which contain translations we use. These files are not used by WordPress itself. Each language will have its own PO file, for example, for French there would be a fr_FR.po file, for german there would be a de_DE.po, for British English there might be en_GB.po. to review and proof-read them with poedit. I want to substitute all the strings that were changed by me. If it doesn’t, I’ll have to build our pt_BR package from the svn repositoryWordPress Localization Repository The WordPress Localization Repository at https://i18n.svn.wordpress.org/ is a Subversion repository where official WordPress translations are maintained. See Working with the Translation Repository for details..

I’ve just found a string which needs plural format https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/22749 The string is “selected” and it refers to the number of media selected on the insert media screen. I think it would be better if it could make into 3.5, since it’s on evidence and it’s a very ugly grammar mistake.

Hi Found a duplicated string in the wordpress…

Hi, Found a duplicated stringString A string is a translatable part of the software. A translation consists of a multitude of localized strings. in the wordpress-admin.pot filePOT file POT files are the template files for PO files. They will have all the translation strings left empty. A POT file is essentially an empty PO file without the translations, with just the original strings.. Lines 1009 and 6823. The only difference is a missing full stop at wp-admin/edit-form-advanced.php:62

me again,
A user reported a problem related to the $wp_default_secret_key at pt_BR.php. This person says that when he updates his sites he can’t access the admin panel and get a message: “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.”. Deleting this file fixes the problem. What’s wrong here? The variable value in brazilian portuguese is the same in the wp-config.php file. So I guess it shouldn’t be a problem. could somebody help us, please?

Guys, I’ll make a request. Today I had to research the old polyglots mailing list archive, however, there was a message saying it’s not active anymore, because it has changed to this blog here. Could you please, leave at least a link to the archives? Sometimes its usefull, I’ve found what I needed searching at google, but a link on that page would be easier.
Thanks

Hi Zé, on another thread you said we have 10 validators at translate.wordpress.orgtranslate.wordpress.org The platform for contributing to the translation of WordPress core, themes and plugins.. I didn’t know about that, I thought it was only me and Frei. Who are the others? I don’t remember anybodyelse asking to become a validatorValidator See translation editor.. Depending on the names on that list we could change it. I thinks its better less people validating. Thanks
