Hello,
I have started translating WordPress into Urdu. Can anyone of you tell me how my translations will get approved? I’ve been doing this for last couple of days but none has been approved yet.

Hello,
You need validator rights for your language (which are requested on this page) in order to get your translations approved. Also, you have Handbook and Polyglots’ resources to help you with your first steps in the process. Once you have finished your translation on GlotPress, you may want to request creation of local web site (ur.wordpress.org) so you can publish your work.

Hi Akber, I couldn’t able to find any sub domain site for Urdu language like ur.wordpress.org. So shouldn’t we request to create a sub domain for this purpose first?

And my suggestion is that once we get close to 50% of strings of the latest release, we’ll try to get the domain going – so that people have something to download once they get there.

Hi, I tried entering Urdu strings on the following page against each English phrase. I noticed that if we include any English word in an Urdu string it totally disorders our Urdu phrase. Could you please help me on this?

Thanks, a few points to consider:
1. There should be no English (Roman script) in the translation except variables. And even variables create problems. See next.
2. Unicode- and RTL-compliant applications change direction when it meets a number or an LTR string, and like you said it is very hard to edit right in there.
What I do is I use an editor such as Notepad++ or UniRed and copy the string there — these editors have modes that do not change direction, so you will see the English string the wrong way — i.e. RTL — but at least they will all be in the same direction so that you can verify its correctness. When you paste this back into the browser interface, the English part will switch direction but the underlying order will be OK.

Hey guys, looks like you gave up on this effort? As I am seeing the following message when I try to get Urdu translation at http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_in_Your_Language#Urdu_-_.D8.A7.D8.B1.D8.AF.D9.88
“WordPress in Urdu – اردو appears abandoned. If you want to organize an official team, please visit the Polyglots’ P2 with your request.”
Let me know if you want to move forward and you need any help, I am committed to making this effort succeed. It will be a one big step forward for users of Urdu language over the Internet.

Yes, it is ongoing but slow and I’ve updated the status to show that now. Definitely not abandoned right now. We have had about 30 strings last week. Please contribute your strings. I do monitor any pending approvals regularly.
