Weeks 5: WordCamp Base Theme Page Templates Update
I’m very excited today to be able to announce that the SVN repository for the WordCamp Base theme and custom post types plugin has been set up. Additionally, Konstantin has requested that a “wordcamp” component be added to the related trac instance so that we can use tickets to track feature requests and our progress on them. If you’re a WordCamp organizer and ever wanted to know what was under the hood of the base theme, or weren’t satisfied with the tools available, this is your chance to get involved.

Have been waiting for this. Thanks for your hard work, Brandon! As a WordCamp organizer, I’ve seen some things that I wish I could change, maybe this is my wake up call. Thanks again for the update!

One thing that I found a little frustrating was the lack of control. This probably isn’t something that most people have an issue with, but I’m not a designer and my coding ability is about at a 3rd or 4th grade level. So I couldn’t do a lot of customization like others could. I missed being able to install Gravity Forms and create my forms like I was able to the first year I helped organize a camp. The speaker custom post type and the camp tix plugin were awesome though! Would love to see a “check in” module added to camp tix plugin.

Scott, great feedback! Sometimes we lose sight of the fact that organizers aren’t necessarily developers. The aim of our subcommittee is to make the base theme better, so hopefully your needs are addressed in the future. As I mentioned before, we’re going to be asking for more contributors to this group next month. We need all the help we can get!
