New organizer mentorship program
Description: Organizing that first event is so much work! Sleep is lost, mistakes are made, money is wasted, and awesome is reduced. Wouldn’t it be amazing if every new WordCamp organizer was paired up with an experienced organizer who could act as a resource and guide?
Length of Project: Phase 1 (2-4 weeks): Recruit an international pool of willing mentors and define the mentor’s role. Phase 2 (ongoing): as new organizers are approved, assign each a mentor.
Experience Required: Immersion in the WordCamp community and experience running successful WordCamps within the current guidelines. Excellent communication skills.

I would love to help out with this. I’ve was one of the organizers of WordCamp NYC 2012 (and we’re working hard on securing a date/venue for NYC 2013), and I have been a volunteer in the WPNYC community since WordCamp in 2009. I also attend WordCamps as frequently as possible (mostly in the northeast USA), most recently Philly and Providence, RI. I always end up chatting with the organizers about what worked for them and what they think could’ve been better. (I usually end up helping out in some way, shape, or form too, whether it’s helping at the happiness bar, volunteering at registration, or speaking, etc.)

I’d really love to organize a WordCamp in Argentina. I organize a developers’ conference in Mar del Plata, called MDQ DevConf. Please, let me know if we can make it together. Thank you!

I love this idea! I co-organized WordCamp Orange County 2010, 2011, and 2012 (and we are working on 2013). I also helped WordCamp San Diego get their first camp together in 2011. It would be great fun to pass on what I’ve learned and see new WordCamps emerge.

Lead organizer for Vegas 2009, 2010 and 2012 and co-organizer in 2011. I may also have attended a couple other events.
I’m already in contact with some folks back east who are looking to run a camp, so I’m already passing on some knowledge.

I could have used a mentor when starting to organize WordCamp! I’d be happy to help others out on this. I organized WordCamp Jerusalem 2010 and 2011.

I am *loving* all these prospective mentors stepping forward! Awesome!
If you’re interested in mentoring but NOT working on creating a mentorship program, please reply to this comment with that info.
Our mentorship subcommittee will contact you when they have a plan for mentorships in place.

I think the emails went out, but it wasn’t very clear who else was involved here, or next steps. Where is the list for the volunteers actually creating the program? I’d like to get in touch so we can start building awesomeness

I’m also helping other organizers here in Brazil. As I’m already involved in the translation task, I’m just letting you know that I’d like to be contacted about the mentorships’ plan.

Who else is actually on the committee? I am willing to start rounding the troops to start working on this, just need to know who’s involved and we can give it a go from there.

I signed up to be on this committee, and got an email from Andrea confirming that I wanted to help, but nothing since then.
