DNS issues on WordPress.org
Hi folks, there’s a known issue with the DNS for WordPress.org. Things may go haywire while we work to bring things back to normal.
Update, 6:23 PM ET — Proper DNS has been restored for WordPress.org.
This was the mistake of an upstream provider, not the result of any hack.
No, we didn’t undergo a redesign. If you’re still seeing a site that is decidedly not WordPress.org, it may take a while for the site to be restored for you.
You can try these commands from the command line to flush your local DNS cache. DNS is tricky, and can get cached on your computer, on your router, or even by your ISP. Please be patient while the DNS propagates.

By we, I mean @barry and co. I’ll try to make sure this post stays updated.

The DNS changes have been reverted, so everything should return back to normal. Note that this was the mistake of an upstream provider, and not the result of any hack.
If you’re still seeing a site that is decidedly not WordPress.org, you will need to flush your DNS.
On Windows command line:
ipconfig /flushdnsOn Mac command line:
dscacheutil -flushcacheAdam (bizzyLabs) 10:34 pm on October 13, 2011 Permalink
Just flushed, and tried, still not working, probably take an hour to take effect.

Unfortunately the DNS may have been cached upstream for you, perhaps with your ISP (or even at your router). This will be a long and messy recovery.

Yet another reason to use Google’s DNS servers: http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/
I plugged those into my router.

Yeah not going to be a router issue for me but I’d say ISP, on a second thought I kinda wished the error showed my wordpress blog, would be getting insane traffic for that short while haha

What was the TTL before the issue? It looks like it’s 5 minutes right now and look fine.

Things are still wacky on my end. When I compare revisions on my blog I get msg that says “Hey tara l. conley” “You’re in the matrix” “Follow the white rabbit”. I’m a Mac user. Sorry, but I do not understand what you mean by “flush” the DNS.

Never mind. I was just told that this is WordPress easter egg.

The issues mentioned in this thread also only affected the site http://wordpress.org/ and not your own blog.
