Upcoming WordCamp Hangouts

WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. They're one of the places where the WordPress community comes together to teach one another what they’ve learned throughout the year and share the joy. Learn more. organizer hangouts are scheduled for August!

Google Plus has some interesting opinions about how many people we can invite to these hangouts, which are public to anyone in the WordPress community. If you’ve not been invited via Google Plus, please consider this your invitation and request to join any event that looks like fun to you. The last orientation in August will be streamed, so no limits there.

This month I’ve scheduled two experimental WordCamp organizer “lunch” hangouts, which are intended to be casual gatherings for WordCamp organizers. No agenda, just WordCamp organizing chatter and fun times. If your camp is in planning, bring your challenges, ideas, and questions for feedback and advice from other organizers.

  • The standards we use for content we publish.
  • Approving videos – walk through
  • Using tags to communicate with other mods, classify videos, and feature content
  • Managing site and theme features on wordpress.tv
  • Other moderator tips and tricks

Ping is used in computer science to illicit a response from a target server to test it’s connection. Ping is also a term used by Slack users to @ someone or send them a direct message (DM). Users might say something along the lines of “Ping me when the meeting starts.” me at jerrysarcastic, or you can email me at jerry [at] automattic [dot] com.

Let’s have a new moderator orientation!

Howdy ModSquad, so first some awesome news; we are growing in numbers with the addition of two new moderators, so please welcome Torsten @zodiac1978 and Stefan @stkjj who both join us from Germany.

With that in mind, how about we have a quick orientation this Friday at 9:00am PDT (16:00 UTC ) in IRC (#wordpress-getinvolved on freenode) and plan on an hour? There will be a log available for anyone that can’t make it, and let’s plan on keeping it under an hour for those that can

To participate, you need an IRC client. Here is a list of several you can use, depending on your OS: https://codex.wordpress.org/IRC#IRC_Client_Applications

If you prefer, you can use the freenode web chat interface here, instead of downloading a client: http://webchat.freenode.net/

Once configured and installed (if using a client) point it to irc.freenode.net and connect. Youll need to choose a descriptive nickname and then join the #wordpress-getinvolved channel.
