Howdy mods and wordpress.tv enthusiasts. I have been spending some time in the queues getting my feet wet, and I was wondering what we should do about the fact that the Pending queue is starting to fill up with videos that aren’t going anywhere. 🙁

With that in mind, any thoughts on how we can proceed? Currently, our biggest problem is videos that are not in English, as I am thinking that is what most of us speak fluently, but anybody have skills in the following areas?

Italian
Portuguese
Spanish
Hebrew
Slovak
Japanese
Danish
Swedish
French

That’s quite a few, and it’s a shame that we are holding on to them like this. I can put the call out for ore mods, but thought I’d ask here first, to see if we have any hidden talents. 🙂

In addition, we have a few videos that look like they tagged as DUPLICATE and DO NOT PUBLISH, as well as one (there may be others) with technical issues. @myroseapple what has been our policy on those? Are we holding on to them for some reason, or are you as unsure as I am about what to do as a next step.

At first I moved everything into the Draft queue since I don’t know the procedure. I now move the DUPLICATE’s to the trashTrash Trash in WordPress is like the Recycle Bin on your PC or Trash in your Macintosh computer. Users with the proper permission level (administrators and editors) have the ability to delete a post, page, and/or comments. When you delete the item, it is moved to the trash folder where it will remain for 30 days..

The one’s marked DO NOT PUBLISH are videos that do not match the descriptions. I left them in the queue to remind me to follow up on the email I sent. The other is an INCOMPLETE video (missing the first several minutes).

Not real clear on a policy but I’m sure they can all be safely deleted.

  OK cool, my thought is that we can just make a policy here on the spot. Isn’t no one else around here doing this. 🙂
  
  For videos with technical issues (incomplete, bad audio, bad video, etc.) how about this:
  - Let’s start by clearing out the ones with the technical issues now, so starting from zero
  - Moving forward, lets keep videos like this (with the appropriate modtag) in Pending, which will give us some time to contact the camp organizer or make other arrangements, and keep it “line of sight” so we don’t forget about it in some other queue
  - If it’s been 30 days (more or less) lets move it to the trashTrash Trash in WordPress is like the Recycle Bin on your PC or Trash in your Macintosh computer. Users with the proper permission level (administrators and editors) have the ability to delete a post, page, and/or comments. When you delete the item, it is moved to the trash folder where it will remain for 30 days.
  Given our current volume, that should be more than manageable. What’dya think?

@squarepixel @kyleglim-2 Do you have any language skills you can bring to bear here, or know anyone you can recommend as a mod for the non-english stuff?

      Yes, would be happy to join the IRC. I’m in CEST time zone, so the typical IRC times (around 7-8pm in Europe) are perfect.
      
      Regarding the French videos:
      I scheduled two of them for publication.
      
      This one is a bit of an edge case: wordpress.tv/?p=33387
      The debate about multi-language is super interesting, audio quality is ok. Unfortunately, the audio quality is becoming pretty degraded towards the end (lots of clicks and artifacts). Can we ask the uploader – Kirk Wight – if there’s anything he can do? Anyway, it’s very interesting and worth to watch, so I scheduled it.
      
      There are four others from Montreal 2013 where the audio isn’t bearable IMHO (camera mike, extreme room reverb) . They are quite bad, and point to why we could do a better job of including documentation for WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. Looks like the speaker had a nice mic right in front of them. 🙁
        
        I’ll look into the other one, as I agree it is quite nice, and sounds like an encoding error.
